Dr Thomas graduated in 1988 from University College Cardiff with an honours degree in pharmacology. He then went on to study medicine at the University of Southampton Medical School, and qualified in 1992.
He undertook his postgraduate training at the Sussex Cardiac Centre Brighton, and St George’s Hospital London, as well as a senior fellowship in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation at the Royal Perth Hospital in Western Australia. During this training, Dr Thomas conducted research and was awarded a MD degree from Imperial College, London, after completing his thesis on clinical heart failure with preserved systolic function. He was appointed as Consultant Cardiologist to the University College London Hospitals in 2009 and Consultant Cardiologist at Barts Heart Centre & University College Hospital London.
Dr Thomas has extensive experience in all aspects of adult cardiology. He is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of heart failure, and specialises in advanced heart failure management. He is a certified cardiac device specialist of the Heart Rhythm Society, USA, and is also fully trained in the use of ultrafiltration for the management of a select group of heart failure patients who have significant fluid overload.
Dr Thomas specialises in General Cardiology, with particular emphasis on advanced heart failure management, including pacemakers, ICDs, and cardiac resynchronisation therapy.
