Professor James Scott

Professor Scott is currently Professor of Medicine and Cardiovascular Medicine at Imperial College London.  He was previously Chief of Academic Medicine and of NHS clinical service, Chief of Cardiology and Head of Molecular Medicine at The Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital.  

He was founder and first Head of The institute of Genetics and Genomics and founder of the Bioinformatics Centre at Imperial College London.  He previously worked at the University of California San Francisco Medical Centre.  He has received prizes from The Royal College of Physicians London, Glaxo Smith Kline, and Bristol Myers Squibb.  

He is Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians London.  He was a founder member of the Academy of Medical Sciences, member of the European Molecular Biology Organization, a Chartered Biologist and Fellow of the Institute of Biology.  He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society.  

He is distinguished for the discovery of the totally novel mechanism of nucleic acid editing, a process concerned with cholesterol transport, antibody formation, protection against HIV and stem cell programming.  

He has discovered common genetic variation causing dyslipidaemia, heart disease and obesity. Current interests concern genetic and epigenetic mechanisms and systems biology studies in cardiovascular and metabolic disease, and preventive cardiology.  He has a particular interest in health and wellbeing in society, and longevity, through metabolic and cardiovascular disease treatment and prevention.


Professor Julian Halcox

Professor Julian Halcox is a Consultant Cardiologist at University College London Hospitals and Senior Lecturer in Cardiology at University College London. He practices as a general cardiologist specialising in the prevention and treatment of coronary artery disease. Professor Halcox is an expert in the management of high blood pressure, cholesterol disorders and the assessment and treatment of people with a family history of heart attack and other vascular disease. He combines his clinical work with a productive program of research into mechanisms responsible for the development of coronary artery disease.



Dr Akhil Kapur

Dr Kapur is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Barts and the London NHS Trust. His main interests are coronary angioplasty via the transradial route, the use of rotational atherectomy, and optimal revascularisation of the diabetic patient with coronary disease. He is also experienced in  complex pacing and peripheral angioplasty including renal and carotid interventions. Dr Kapur trained in cardiology at the Hammersmith and Royal Brompton Hospitals in London and the Clinique Pasteur in Toulouse, France. He studied for his higher degree at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College, London and has published and presented on a range of cardiovascular topics. He speaks French, Spanish and Hindi.



Dr Malcolm Walker

Dr Walker is a Consultant Cardiologist to the University College Hospital, Honorary Consultant Cardiologist to King Edward VII's Hospital and to St Luke's Hospital for the Clergy, Clinical Director to the Hatter Institute of Cardiovascular Research, University College London and University of Cape Town, Republic of South Africa, and President of  the British Association for Cardiac Rehabilitation. His clinical interests within cardiology span from angioplasty intervention in coronary heart disease to the development of a successful exercise based cardiac rehabilitation program. Dr Walker also has an interest within heart muscle disease associated with iron overload.



Dr. Simon Woldman

Dr. Simon Woldman is a consultant at University College London Hospitals NHS Trust. He is a specialist in heart failure and general cardiology. He has particular expertise in cardiac imaging, particularly nuclear cardiology and echocardiography. He is accredited by the British Society of Echocardiography in transthoracic and trans-oesophageal echocardiography. Dr. Woldman attended Glasgow University and then trained in North of Scotland and the West of Scotland before becoming consultant in Ayr Hospital in 2001. He was clinical lead for heart failure for the whole of Ayrshire, before being appointed to University College Hospital where he was also appointed clinical lead for heart failure. He is the immediate past-president of the British Nuclear Cardiology Society and has previously served on the councils of the British Cardiovascular Society and the British Nuclear Medicine Society. His research interest is in the role of cardiac imaging in heart failure. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in London and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. Sir Magdi Yacoub

FRS, FRCS - Consultant Cardiac Surgeon
Sir Magdi Yacoub is British Heart Foundation Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Imperial College London.  He is founder and Director of Research at the Harefield Heart Science Centre (National Heart & Lung Institute), and former Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust.  Specialist interest in complex aortic root surgery.



Elaine Young - Senior Ultrasonographer

Elaine is the Principal Clinical Vascular Scientist/Sonographer and Director/Co-Founder of London Vascular Services Ltd, providing specialised ultrasound services to London Medical and a number of hospitals in London. Prior to founding LVS, Elaine was the Clinical Business Manager and Senior Clinical Vascular Scientist at Vincent Medical for three years where she co-managed the vascular laboratory services. Previously, Elaine was a Vascular Research Associate at Kings College School of Medicine and Dentistry in London and a Vascular Technologist at University Hospital of South Manchester. Elaine has a postgraduate diploma in medical Imaging from the University of Portsmouth, is an accredited Vascular Scientist, and has a BSc (Hons) in Biology from the University of Paisley. She is a member of SVT of GB & Ireland, UKAS and BMUS.



Kate Sommerville - Senior Ultrasonographer

Kate is a Vascular Scientist/Sonographer and Co-Director of London Vascular Services Ltd, providing specialised ultrasound services to London Medical and a number of NHS and private hospitals. Prior to joining LVS, Kate was the Operations Manager and Chief Vascular Technologist for Vincent Medical where she co-ordinated a team of 14 technologists providing services to a large number of well known hospitals in London. Kate has practiced vascular ultrasound since 1989. Previously, Kate worked as a Senior Vascular Technologist in St Thomas Hospital, London and St Vincents Hospital, Sydney (Australia). Kate is qualified as an Accredited Vascular Scientist in London. She has an MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Surrey and has been involved in numerous research papers on all aspects of vascular disease with research fellows at St Thomas, St Vincent and The Middlesex. Kate is a member of SVT of GB & Ireland (where she is also on the Education Committee) and UKAS.

 



Victoria Bautista - Ultrasonographer

Victoria is a Senior Vascular Scientist for London Vascular Services Ltd, providing specialised ultrasound services to London Medical and a number of hospitals in London. Prior to joining LVS, Victoria was a Clinical Vascular Scientist at St Mary’s Hospital where she was accountable for performing carotid, venous, arterial, renal and medentreric duplex studies. Prior to that, Victoria was the Chief Vascular Technologist at Vincent Medical Ltd in London, a Registered Vascular Technologist in Alaska Native Medical Centre in Alaska and a Vascular Technologist in Arizona. She graduated from Oregon Institute of Technology with a BS in Medical Imaging Technology and is a registered Vascular Technology (ARDMS) 1996.Victoria is also a member of SVT – Great Britain and Ireland and a qualified Accredited Vascular Scientist.



Jillian Rosemarie Brown - Ultrasonographer

Jillian is a Clinical Vascular Scientist for London Vascular Services Ltd, providing specialised ultrasound services to London Medical and a number of hospitals in London. Previously Jillian worked with Vincent Medical where she was involved in working in the vascular laboratory of UCH and UCLH. Her postgraduate vascular qualifications were undertaken in Australia and before relocating to the UK she held a superintendent position at the vascular laboratory in Hornsby Sydney. Jillian graduated with a BSc in Biochemistry (University of New South Wales), Graduate Diploma of Health Science (Medical Sonography from the University of Sydney), a Diploma of Medical Ultrasound (Vascular) and a Certificate of Competence (Nuchal Translucency).
