Rasilez - anti-hypertensive drug now available

October 11th, 2007

The first in a new class of anti-hypertensive drugs for over 10 years, Rasilez is a direct inhibitor of the enzyme renin, which is critical in the regulation of fluid balance and blood pressure.  Clinical trials have shown it to be as effective as anti-hypertensive treatments already on the market, with an extremely low incidence of adverse events.

On average, the reduction in blood pressure (BP) is approximately 85 – 95% within 2 weeks of initiating treatment.  Designed to be taken once daily, BP was further improved in clinical trials when Rasilez was taken in combination with a diuretic, a calcium channel blocker, an ACE inhibitor or an angiotensin receptor blocker.
