Diabetes and Obesity increase in parallel
February 26th, 2009
New research has revealed that new cases of diabetes have increased dramatically in Britain. The increase was 74% between 1997 and 2003 with a doubling between 2006 and 2008. The study suggested that this increase is greater than that occurring in the USA which has a similar increase in obesity and greater than in other European countries. Most of the increase is believed to be due to rising levels of obesity rather than an aging population or increased screening. The research, done by the Spanish Centre fo Pharmacoepidemiological Research in Madrid, was published in the Journal of Epidemiiology and Community Health.
